The work explained

Slate. This is another in my series of landscape-referential works. A tone poem examination of the grey-blue galleries, inclines and spoil heaps of Dinorwic Quary, North Wales.

My wife and I scaled the winding trail up the spoil heap, where I captured the image in the cover art.

The work continues my exploration of generative techniques, utiliing modal scales, polyrhythmic and non repeating sequences, layering of scale sequences that drift in and out of harmony/dissonance. The two main works utilise the same sonic materials ordered differently via scale transformation. Tools used are various sample libraries and scale manipulation is by Harmony Bloom and Rhythmiser Ultra sometimes each triggering the other. There are elements of rules-based randomisation in the note ordering.
